SPGB Architects Announces New Leadership and Ownership Transition

SPGB Architects is pleased to announce that Tom Gates has been elected President and Michelle Shumaker has been elected Vice President. This leadership transition positions our next generation to guide continued growth and specialization, while enabling past President Jim Butz to focus on staff development, planning, and design.

Tom has served as Vice President and Director of Operations for the past ten years and now assumes responsibility for managing all aspects of the firm. He will lead SPGB in collaboration with newly appointed Studio Leaders and business administrators, strengthening operations and supporting continued excellence in client service.

Michelle Shumaker has been instrumental in designing projects and directing technical services since becoming a principal in 2010. She is transitioning into the role of Director of Innovation, where she will focus on developing competitive advantages through strategic partnerships and emerging technologies.

Together, this leadership team will continue SPGB’s tradition of excellence, collaboration, and innovative design in service of our clients and communities.
